89 Women Graduate from Kabete Fanikisha Cohort, Taking New Steps Towards Economic Empowerment
On 29 October 2026, Kianda Foundation celebrated a remarkable milestone as 89 women graduated from the Kabete Fanikisha cohort, marking the completion of a transformative journey of learning, growth and renewed possibilities.

For these women, graduation represents far more than the completion of a training programme. It is a celebration of courage, determination and the belief that, with the right support and opportunities, women can transform their lives, strengthen their families and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Fanikisha, which means breakthrough, is a Kianda Foundation programme designed to equip women from underserved communities with practical skills and knowledge to improve their livelihoods and build more dignified lives.
Through a comprehensive training approach, the programme combines cookery and nutrition, business skills development, and counselling and mental health support. This holistic model recognises that women's empowerment extends beyond income generation. It also involves building confidence, nurturing emotional well-being and creating an environment where women feel supported to pursue their aspirations.

Throughout their training, the Kabete participants gained practical knowledge in food preparation, business management and financial planning, while also benefiting from guidance and support that encouraged personal growth and resilience.
The graduation ceremony was a moment of pride and reflection, celebrating the dedication of the 89 women who committed themselves to learning and personal development. It also marked the beginning of a new chapter, one in which the skills and confidence acquired during training can be translated into meaningful opportunities.
For many women, the knowledge gained through Fanikisha provides a foundation for starting or strengthening small businesses, improving household nutrition, managing resources more effectively and making informed decisions about their futures.

Beyond the individual graduates, the impact of the programme extends to their families and communities. When women gain skills, confidence and opportunities, the benefits often reach far beyond the individual, creating ripple effects that contribute to stronger households and more resilient communities.
Since its establishment in 2003, Fanikisha has continued to create opportunities for women to overcome barriers, develop their potential and take meaningful steps towards economic empowerment. The programme has graduated and impacted more than 4,583 women, each carrying a story of determination, growth and possibility.
The graduation of the Kabete cohort is another reminder of what becomes possible when women are given access to practical training, psychosocial support and opportunities to believe in themselves.
As the 89 graduates embark on the next chapter of their journeys, Kianda Foundation celebrates their achievements and remains committed to advancing the education, economic empowerment and well-being of women and girls in Kenya.
Congratulations to the 89 Kabete Fanikisha graduates. Your breakthrough is just the beginning.
