In the quiet hills of Gatundu, in a small place called Mutunguru village, one woman’s dream is beginning to reshape the future of an entire generation of girls.
Perpetua, one of our graduates from the Kianda Foundation Social Projects class, grew up in this very village. She knows what it means to walk its dusty paths, to sit in its classrooms, and to carry the silent questions of adolescence. She remembers the confusion, the pressure, and the longing for a guiding voice during those fragile years.

It was this memory and this deep empathy that lit a fire in her heart.
Every school holiday, Perpetua began gathering girls in the local church. What started as a small idea quickly grew , each session drawing nearly 50 girls between the ages of 13 and 17. At this delicate stage of self-discovery, these young women were yearning for direction, reassurance, and a safe space to be themselves. Perpetua gave them exactly that.
She listened. She encouraged. She showed them that they were not alone, and that their lives held immense promise. But she also knew that for this dream to last, it needed structure, consistency, and a sense of belonging.
That is where her training with the Kianda Foundation Social Projects program made all the difference. Armed with tools in leadership, community building, and storytelling, she transformed her vision into something sustainable.
And so, on the 19th of August 2025, Imara Girls Club was born. A sanctuary for girls to grow and become.

“Imara,” meaning strong and unshakable, is more than just a name—it is a promise. A promise that every girl who steps into the club will find a safe space to discover her worth, to ask the difficult questions, to dream without fear, and to grow roots deep enough to withstand the storms of life.
Perpetua’s journey is a testament to the ripple effect of empowerment. When one woman is equipped, she does not rise alone—she lifts others with her. Through her vision, Mutunguru village is witnessing the birth of leaders, dreamers, and changemakers who will one day transform their communities.

At Kianda Foundation, we believe that every young woman has within her the seeds of greatness. Sometimes, all it takes is a safe space, a guiding hand, and the courage of someone like Perpetua to help those seeds grow.
And so, in a small village church, on an ordinary day in August, an extraordinary story began. The story of Imara Girls Club—a story of strength, of hope, and of a future that will not be shaken.
